Free fitness programme in Cornwall
Programme for 2010

RENEW - Really Effective Neurological Exercise Workouts

Cornwall & Isles of Scilly PCT are working with The Core, a local fitness studio, to provide free twenty-week fitness programmes for people with neurological conditions.

These free 20 week programmes are for anyone with a neurological condition. They're held at three different venues in Cornwall and are devised and led by qualified fitness trainers from Falmouth based company The Core and involve gentle exercise, healthy lifestyle advice and relaxation techniques, as well as posture and stretching exercises.

The programme supports the PCT's strategic objective to help people to stay healthy, live independently and offer a choice of local services.  It is backed by Public Health guidance around the benefits of low intensity exercise.

Pre-screenings are being held at:

  • The Merlin Centre on 27th April
  • Oak Tree Surgery, Liskeard on 28th April
  • Camborne on 24th May

Patients will be asked to complete a pre-assessment questionnaire, which should be checked by their GP or health professional before starting.  For further information please contact Deborah Matthews on 01209 888223.  It's first come, first served with 15 spaces per course

These are quotes from patients who attended the successful pilot scheme in 2008.

“I loved learning the sitting to standing exercise – I can now get off the sofa without making my normal fuss”
“I can put my socks on.  More helpful than anything else we have tried”
“It has improved my posture which has improved my walking”
“Working with similar conditions makes this easy, pleasurable and good fun”
“Doing exercise with other people helps to keep me motivated”
